PLEASE NOTE:

We must announce a postponement in the seasonal opening of The Maine Boomhouses. Covid 19 presents safety issues for both our visitors and staff. We had already planned some major restoration projects this year, and we will try to complete these projects during this down time. We apologize for the inconvenience and will keep you updated as to our future opening date.

Hours of Operation:

The Boomhouses are open daily to the public from May 15 to September 15. Chuck Harris, our museum curator and caretaker, is generally in residence at Chesuncook, otherwise he is available by chance or appointment.

Directions:

Chesuncook Boomhouse is located off the Golden Rd between mile marker 32 and 33 from either Millinocket or Greenville.

Ambajejus Boomhouse is located on an island where the West Branch of the Penobscot River flows into Ambajejus Lake. It is only accessible by water. From the Golden Rd at mile marker 11 turn onto the Grant Brook Rd. Paddlers may put in at the Grant Brook bridge. Boaters may use the Brookfield public landing on Ambajejus Lake, across from The North Woods Trading Post. Otherwise, please contact us for suggestions.
